Our Mission: Preserving Radnor Football History

Radnor High School has been playing football since 1896, and is one of the oldest programs in the country. While there have been up seasons and down seasons, this program has a rich history that is woven through the fabric of Radnor Township, Pennsylvania. Multiple generations of our families and neighbors have participated in the program. The young men who played proudly wore the Radnor uniform, and its coaches have taught their charges not only how to be better football players but also better people.

Before today, the story of Radnor Football was primarily maintained within the memories of the players, students, families and teachers whom it touched as well as their scrapbooks and boxes of mementos. Our goal is to collect, record, preserve and display the history of the program so that all can enjoy and ensure that it survives. We cannot do this alone. Your participation is essential.

What you will see here is a work in progress. We have been working diligently to collect as much historical information about the Radnor Football teams as possible. The Alumni Association of Radnor High School and the Radnor Football “Has Beens” have been integral to the effort. Our sources also include alumni and their families, newspapers, yearbooks, the Radnorite, and game programs, among others. As you can imagine, it is quite a large and sometimes difficult task. Rather than wait until we had perfect information about every Radnor Football season, we decided to publish what we have collected so far, while continuing to add and update. We encourage former players, coaches, families and fans who have additional information to contact us to add, update, or correct information on the site. Our goal is to share what we have collected and work towards completeness as additional information is available.

More Information

What We Do

One thing that immediately stood out about the program is the absence of easily accessible data about the records and accomplishments of the Radnor Football Team. There were no easy answers about the captains, coaches, statistical leaders, awards, yearly records and performance against other teams. As we began an effort to compile this information and stats, we quickly realized that there was a fantastic history surrounding the program and stats were only one small part of the story. So we now spend our free time searching out this information and history.

How We Get It Done

This site reflects a collaboration among alumni, parents of players, the Radnor Alumni Association and the Radnor Football “Has Beens.” Right now our primary sources for information have been the Alumni Association Archives, the Radnor High School Archives, The Radnor Historical Society, alumni and their families, as well as Radnor High School Year Books, game programs, The Radnorite school newspaper, The Suburban and Wayne Times, The Chester Times, The Delaware County Daily Times, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our Goal

Our ultimate goal is both practical and aspirational. At its most basic we want to gather game and statistical data regarding achievement and performance by Radnor High School’s scholar football athletes to recognize their on field accomplishments. We aspire to preserve the history of the Radnor Football Program, connect with the players and coaches and be a place where the community can visit to share their memories and celebrate their friends, families, and neighbors.
